A high school in the mountains at 4,000 meter? This seemed impossible yet now it stands. The high school is the pride of HoPe's education program and of the Indian community. Such a school is unique in the highlands of Peru. The idea to found this school came from the Indians themselves.
The school teaches the students skills with which they can improve their local standard of living. Classes in agriculture are offered and the students can also learn arts and crafts. The high school has seven greenhouses with which the school stimulates innovation in agricultural techniques. Cultivation from the cold grounds of the highland mountains is difficult as only potatoes grow here. But the greenhouses (four walls of limestone covered with plastic) make it possible to cultivate vegetables. These are a welcome addition to the standard unhealthy and homogeneous meals.
